Seppe

New York — 2023

Originating on the Staten Island waterfront, Seppe, a modern, family-friendly, neighbourhood pizzeria, is taking to the streets of Manhattan, NYC. Seppe celebrates the Italian-American tradition of eating cherished recipes around the family table. Joe, our client wanted to expand this warmth into the streets of NYC in the form of a Manhattan-friendly pizzeria.

Due to it’s location, the new restaurant caters for a wide variety of potential guests and customers, so we experimented with various layouts, ensuring the space accommodated both sit-down lunches, grab-and-go slices and of course, happy hour. We took reference from the original Staten Island location, ensuring the atmosphere remained laid back and free of formal frills.

Taking cues this time from 1930s Italy, we pulled tones from Seppe’s very own ingredients, moving the interiors down a warmer, modernist path. Tomato reds, pasta ochres, pesto green, dough white and charcoal greys were introduced into the colour palette and implemented through subway and mosaic wall and floor tiling. Cognac-toned oak was introduced in the form of wall panelling, fluted glass door fronts and an under-lit bar front. We partnered the timber with antique brass and green-veined Calcatta quartz table tops to provide a level of elegance and further celebrate Italy’s craftsmanship. Timber-framed, clean-lined mirrors were placed alongside the oak cladding and angled above the dining area to bounce the warm glow emitting from the architectural, vintage pendants around the pizzeria.
